From creating and resolving support cases, troubleshooting on the spot, and answering parent’s SchoolCafé inquiries (all the while providing great customer service), our Customer Care Team can’t be beat! Audene Chung, Director of Customer Care

Where do you call home?

Houston, Texas. I was actually born in Jamaica, lived in NYC, and have traveled all over the country and many spots around the globe, but H-town feels like home to me. It’s such a diverse city and I really enjoy all that it has to offer – art, music, food. I enjoy trying new restaurants and venues.

How long have you worked for PrimeroEdge?

I’ve been with PrimeroEdge since May 2017, but I’ve been a fan since 2014 when I started working for HISD (Houston Independent School District- the 7th largest school district in the nation). I have over 20 years of experience in the school nutrition industry with independently operated school districts and food service management companies. Many years ago when I was in college, during a career day presentation, I was inspired by the then Austin ISD Food Service Director to go into the school nutrition business and I have never looked back.

My first job out of college was as the registered dietitian for Pasadena ISD planning menus for almost 60,000 students. Then, I moved to HISD working for Aramark as a local then national Marketing Director. I then briefly worked with Cypress Fairbanks ISD, another large district in the Houston area as an Assistant Food Service Director.   Next, I moved to New York to join Chartwells School Dining Services and later became a Vice President with them for about 11 years. I developed school nutrition programs and marketing campaigns for our 500+ school districts.  I’ve had the opportunity to see school food services all over the country, and even traveled internationally seeing school meals all over Europe.

Best part of the job?

The best part of the job so far has been the great learning experience for me, working on such a dynamic system that is always evolving and always changing.  PrimeroEdge utilizes customer feedback to build out the system and to make enhancements and tweaks making PrimeroEdge more user-friendly.

What’s your favorite PrimeroEdge product and why?

Right now, it would be SchoolCafé (menus, applications, and payments), as well as SchoolCafé TV, which is our new digital signage platform.  I’m from the school district side, being a former customer, so those modules that are student facing are my current favorite.

Tell me about a call that stands out in your mind.

I don’t have just one call, but calls with State agencies like PA DOE (Pennsylvania Department of Education) and some accounts and getting to understand their business and how we can be of better service. I understand what they are going through because of my background. I feel I can add value by getting things taken care of in a timely fashion. I know what it’s like to have to get your information finalized to open up schools. All the demands a school food service department has on them to get applications ready, getting menus finished, making sure your point of sale is working properly, your grocery orders are complete, etc. There is so much detail involved, and whatever we can do to ease the burden, we should do. My focus is to be true to our company mantra: We help school nutrition professionals achieve excellence.

What was your favorite food in the cafeteria growing up?

Turkey sandwiches on whole wheat with mustard, lettuce and tomato, and the salad bar in high school.

What’s your favorite food or cuisine now?

Pad thai – it’s the perfect combination of noodles, veggies, shrimp and sauce with some peanuts sprinkled. Great flavors!

Audene decided to go with a plate, since MyPlate replaced the food pyramid. She is a registered dietitian, after all!

If you could redesign the food pyramid without any dire health consequences, how would it look?

The base of my diet would consist of rice, veggies, and some lean protein. Sauce would have its own category condiments: ketchup, mayo or aioli, olives and pickles, mustards, jelly, soy sauce, and ranch dressing.
