WHAT PLAN IS YOUR DISTRICT CHOOSING FOR BACK TO SCHOOL?
It’s been over four months since COVID closed down schools everywhere. What was supposed to be a spring break like any other year, ended up feeling like an early start to summer vacation. Of course, this was the case for students. Foodservice departments in our schools went to work to continue to put meals into the hands of their students and their community members. Though this proved to be successful, it also proved to be exhausting. The main question remained, what would the fall look like?
All summer long, districts have planned for multiple BTS scenarios. With BTS right around the corner, we want to know, what plan are you choosing?
Some options we’ve seen so far for both regular and delayed start dates include:
- 100% faced-to-face
- Staggered Times
- Ideas to consider for your foodservice department:
- Meals in the cafeteria
- Meals in the classroom
- Meals in non-traditional areas of campus (gym, auditorium, multi-purpose room, hallways, outdoors
- Everyone is at home
- Ideas to consider for your foodservice department:
- Curbside pickup
- Delivery
- Alternating Days
- Half of the students are there 100% of the time, the other half is 100% virtual
- Ideas to consider for your foodservice department:
- Combining ideas for both in-person and virtual learning
Whatever plan your district has decided to follow, the biggest thing to consider is flexibility and having the right tools to give you that. If there is anything we have learned in the past several months, it’s that things can change on any given day. When you develop your plans, make sure you have some kind of transition process in place in the event that cases increase or decrease. What do your back to school plans look like?
